Please mark your calendar for this year’s Hospice Butterfly Release and Flutter Fun Walk which will be held on Saturday, August 19th at Leila Arboretum in Battle Creek. Our goal is to release 400 Monarch Butterflies. The event begins with a 1-mile Flutter Fun Walk at 9 am. At 10 am, the Butterfly Release and Celebration of life begins. There will be a brief program that includes the reading of the names of all who are being remembered or honored. At the end of the program, participants will be prompted to release their butterflies. It is breathtaking to see them take flight although many of butterflies stick around and even land on those attending. For some, it is as if their loved one it reaching out to them one more time. The event is filled with both smiles and tears; everyone agrees that it is a moving way to remember those who are lost to us.
Proceeds from this event support our hospice programs, but the event is much more than fundraiser. It is an opportunity to remember our loved ones and celebrate their lives. The butterfly release fosters healing and closure for some. Many people attend each year and look forward to it. People will bring photos of their loved ones and share their stories. Finding the words to describe the true scope of this event is difficult.
There are many opportunities for volunteers to help on the day of the event. I hope to see your there! Please call or email me if you would like more information about the Hospice Butterfly Release. Contact information: 269-282-3006 or Melissa.firstname.lastname@example.org.
